Tony Golik sought out the endorsements of law enforcement officers right out of the box. The reason he sought these endorsements seems pretty straight forward. These officers and detectives know his work and their votes offer the best indicator of qualification in the Prosecutor's office.
Think of it this way: Law enforcement officers and prosecutors are part of the same team. Their purpose, funding and directive is to enforce the law of the land. We spend millions of dollars a year on law enforcement officer training, equipment, personnel and support. Those tax dollars get the criminals off the street and into the courtroom. Once they are in the courtroom, the prosecutors must do their part in getting just convictions for crimes committed. The burden of proof is on the prosecutor's office to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the person committed the crime.
Tony's opponent has basically said anyone remotely connected to public safety is an 'insider' and should be discounted. If that is the case then every single voter in this County is an insider because each of us has a vested interest in the outcome of this election. Every single person in this County has the potential to be victimized. Every single person could be a potential witness. Every single person in this County pays taxes to support law enforcement and the prosecutor's office. The overwhelming support from public safety and people that work with the prosecutor's office is a reflection of Tony's hard work and skill. Getting unanimous endorsement votes from officers is quite a feat and should be given its due.
If you know an officer personally, you know that earning his/her trust is not an easy thing to do. Officers see some horrible things and are justifiably skeptical of what people say and do. To earn the endorsement of every local law enforcement group that has voted says that Tony Golik is viewed by these officers as the person they can trust to do the job right. That's high praise.
